D’Tigress Face Tough Test in 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

The D’Tigress of Nigeria will begin their final journey to book a space in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Germany with tough opponents in Lyon, France.

The Rena Wakama girls will look to keep their hot form as they aim to book a place amongst the 16 slots available to grab.

The exciting journey on the “Road to Berlin” awaits nations aiming to secure a spot at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026, following the successful completion of the Qualifying Tournaments Draw held on October 7 at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland.

The draw, conducted on October 7, 2025, confirmed the last leg of the journey for the teams still chasing a precious place at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 in Berlin, Germany where 16 nations will ultimately compete for the coveted silverware.

The four FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments will take place from March 11 to 17, 2026 in Wuhan, China; Lyon-Villeurbanne, France; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Istanbul, Türkiye.

Each host city will stage one Qualifying Tournament involving six of the 24 participating teams.

Wuhan, China Centre will witness a fierce battle with two African teams in Mali and South Sudan against other nations, including Brazil, Belgium, Czechia and China.

Lyon-Villeurbanne, France Centre will see African champions, Nigeria match up against Colombia, Philippines, Germany, Korea, and France.

In the San Juan, Puerto Rico Centre, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, USA, Senegal, Italy and Spain will go head to head for tickets in the main World Cup

At the Istanbul, Türkiye Centre, Hungary, Türkiye, Argentina, Australia, Canada and Japan will trade tackle in what promises to be a hot centre, going by the pedigree of the participating teams.

The draw was conducted by German national team standout Marie Guelich and former French national team captain, Endy Miyem.

FIBA Secretary General, Andreas Zagklis was also present for the draw ceremony, along with representatives from the participating National Federations
