Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter continued their impressive 2025 form with another exceptional performance, holding the Edo State Judiciary to a goalless draw at regulation time in a novelty match at Uwa Primary School, Benin City.

Representing the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo Chapter, the Edo SWAN team, who started rather slowly, grew into the game to dominate proceedings and create the better chances for most of the encounter.

Captained by SWAN Chairman, Kehinde Osagiede, who marshalled the midfield superbly, the team displayed excellent footballing skill as the chairman himself seamlessly led the charge for a breakthrough, though none would come.

Goalkeeper Precious Nath once again showed why he remains the team’s undisputed starter, producing a string of vital saves to ensure a clean sheet for the journalists’ side.
Other key players like Randy Mikah, Nosa Igunma (came off injured early in the first half), Moses Idahosa, Solomon Aina, Odinaka, Harrison and others played their role perfectly.

The game, however, was not without controversy. Several key decisions went against Edo SWAN, including what appeared to be a clear penalty late in the second half after a last-man challenge on SWAN forward Joseph Ugiagbe, a moment that left players and spectators visibly frustrated.
With the match ending 0–0 in regulation time, both teams proceeded to penalties. SWAN’s first two spot-kicks, taken by Ugiagbe and Sharon Ekhiwere, were saved, while the Judiciary side converted theirs to claim the shootout win.

Despite the shootout setback, Edo SWAN’s unbeaten record in regulation play this year remains intact.
