The 2025 Edo Men’s Cricket League ended spectacularly on Sunday, with Invictus Cricket Club officially sealing the championship, but it was Uniben CC who stole the headlines after pulling off two stunning victories against No-Limit CC and the champions themselves to force their way into the top four.

Going into the final weekend, Invictus CC needed two wins to secure the title, while No-Limit CC needed them to lose both and then overturn the NRR gap. Uniben CC faced the toughest road of all, requiring at least two wins from three matches, all against the league’s top three, to stand any chance of climbing into the top four. Saturday saw Invictus ease past Delta Force CC by 66 runs, while Uniben suffered a heavy 76-run loss to Integrity Force CC, leaving their hopes faint.

But Sunday flipped the script. In the early fixture, No-Limit CC posted 141 all out in 18.5 overs, a target that seemed out of Uniben’s reach considering they had not crossed 120 in previous games. Against all odds, Uniben produced their best batting display of the season, chasing down the total with 147/2 in 17.5 overs to claim a stunning 8-wicket victory. That result confirmed Invictus as league champions, but also kept Uniben’s top-four ambitions alive.

In the final game of the season, Uniben CC delivered yet another shock. Invictus CC, unbeaten all season, were restricted to 115/9 in their 20 overs as Uniben bowled with accuracy and intent. With full confidence, Uniben chased the total in 17.2 overs, finishing on 117/8 to secure a dramatic 2-wicket win, defeating both the second-placed and first-placed teams in a single unforgettable day. Invictus CC celebrated a well-deserved title, but Uniben CC walked away as the remarkable story of the league’s closing chapter.
