The Benin City Youth League continues to gather momentum, and Matchday Six proved to be another week in what is shaping up to be a fiercely contested season. With crucial wins recorded across venues — the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Mini Stadium, both the title race and the battle for survival took clearer shape as teams jostled for position.

At the top of the table, Victoria FA reaffirmed their status as league leaders with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ine Stars. The narrow win was enough to keep them ahead on 16 points, maintaining their unbeaten run after six matches. Closely behind, Dynamo Academica are proving to be serious contenders since they were dethroned. Their disciplined 2-0 away win against Rolly FC not only gave them the right to their title credentials but also kept them within touching distance of the summit on 15 points.

BJ Foundation FC remain firmly in the conversation after delivering one of the standout performances of the round. Their emphatic 4-1 thrashing of Rangers Dynamite showcased their attacking quality and intent, pushing them to 14 points and tightening the race at the top, with just two points separating the leading trio.

Elsewhere, the matchday was defined by impressive away victories. Starting with Eagle Wings who secured a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Westgate FC, while Genesis FC edged Alhaji FC by the same scoreline to climb further up the standings. Okuta FC also joined the list of away winners, defeating Benin Warriors 2-1 in a closely contested encounter.

The most eye-catching result however, came from Etto FC, who produced a commanding display to thrash Living Voice 3-0.

Elsewhere, United Sparrow managed to halt their losing run with a 1-1 draw against Namo Sports, though both sides remain in the lower reaches of the table and in need of consistent results to climb out of danger.

Following the week six matches, the league table reflects a tightening contest at both ends. Victoria FA led the way with 16 points, followed by Dynamo Academica on 15 and BJ Foundation FC on 14. Rolly FC, despite their setback, sit fourth with 12 points, while Benin Warriors round out the top five with 10 points. The middle of the table remains congested, with only a handful of points separating several teams, making every subsequent fixture increasingly decisive.

At the bottom end, the pressure continues to mount. Westgate FC and Namo Sports are struggling to gain their ground, while Rangers Dynamite, with just three points, and United Sparrow, with one point from five matches, face an uphill task to revive their campaigns.

Beyond team performances, the individual battle for supremacy in front of the goal is also heating up. Four players are currently tied at the top of the scoring charts with four goals each—Success Fadoju of BJ Foundation FC, Asata Friday of Rolly FC, Anthony Ogudu of Victoria FA, and Lucky Akowe of Ine Stars. Their consistency in front of the goal has been instrumental to their teams’ performances so far.

Just behind them are Yakubu Ashiru of BJ Foundation FC and Raymond Ikheoba of Rolly FC with three goals apiece. In comparison, a host of players on two goals—including representatives from Genesis FC, Etto FC, Okuta FC, Dynamo Academica, and others—remain within striking distance in what is shaping up to be a wide-open Golden Boot race.

As the league progresses, the margins continue to look slim and the stakes growing wider. With the top three separated by just two points and several teams still within reach of a surge up the table, the Benin City Youth League promises more drama in the coming matchdays. Every fixture now carries weight, and if Matchday Six is any indication, the race for top place and survival is far from starting
