…urges stakeholders to shun ethnicity, politics
Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has applauded the Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, for his stellar performance as helmsman of the institution.
The Deputy Governor made the commendation in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, during the celebration of Umar’s first anniversary in office.
Shaibu described the Rector as an astute administrator and exceptional leader, who has distinguished himself through his passion for quality and excellence in service.
He congratulated Umar, noting that the history and success stories of Auchi Polytechnic will not be complete without mentioning the contributions of the Rector, who within one year in office, has transformed and changed the narrative of the academic citadel for the overall good of Edo State in particular and Nigeria in general.
The Deputy Governor added:” Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar has written his name in gold and stamped his footprints on the sands of the history of the Polytechnic, celebrating his first anniversary as the substantive Rector with numerous projects to his credit. I urge him to sustain the tempo”.
He prayed for long life, good health and peace for Umar while continuing his good work in uplifting the standard of the institution in all facets, and contributing his quota to the development of education in Edo State.
“I have a sentimental attachment to the Polytechnic because I found the beautiful woman that I married from this institution during my visit as the President of the National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS”.
“I celebrate Dr. Umar for his achievements so far. It is worthy of note that I am not supporting anybody, not because I don’t like them, but I will only support and celebrate only those who have the interest of our institution at heart”.
“I have always kicked against the recruitment process of this Polytechnic until Dr. Umar came and changed the narrative. Auchi Polytechnic was established to provide manpower that will shape the society and the entire Nigerian economy”.
“Auchi Polytechnic was specially and specifically established to produce technical and professional middle-level manpower in different fields of studies. It is not my concern who becomes the Rector; my concern is how the Polytechnic will keep producing first-class graduates who will challenge others”.
“This is the time to start thinking development and shun ethnicity to develop Auchi Polytechnic”, Shaibu added.
Earlier, the Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, highlighted his achievements in the last year, while extending his appreciation to Edo State Government.
He acknowledged the robust partnership between the Polytechnic and the State Government, through the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu.
The first-anniversary celebration which took place at the Polytechnic’s main auditorium, was graced by eminent personalities from across Nigeria, including academic, non-academic staff and students of the Polytechnic.
