Nigerian forward Akinwunmi Amoo Not Facing Jail Time for Sexual Offences.

Contrary to earlier reports from some media outlets, it has been clarified that Akinwunmi Amoo, the 21-year-old FC Copenhagen forward, has not received a one-year prison sentence for sexual assault.

It was initially reported that Amoo appeared before a Copenhagen court on Friday about an ongoing trial where he was given a one-year prison sentence. However, the charges against him are different from what was initially reported. The allegations involve a sexual relationship other than intercourse, attempted rape, and violations of two women.

It is important to note that Amoo has expressed his intention to appeal the sentence, highlighting his belief in his innocence. The case remains under legal proceedings, and a final verdict is yet to be reached.

When contacted by Nigerian Journalist Adepoju Samuel, the brother of the accused Sunday Amoo, revealed that the youngster is in his home in Denmark and it’s a case of blackmail.

“He was not sent to jail, no house arrest or travel ban. He is in his home in Denmark. The case is ongoing in court.

The judgment was delivered last week Friday & his lawyer has appealed. He can’t make an official statement because of the name ban in the Danish press. Unfortunately, this case is blackmail & we will continue to fight for justice. Akin was not sent to jail.

We appreciate everyone that has reached out to us, Akin is fine & he was not sent to jail. He has been injured & he is just coming back from injury. When the court permits, he will release a statement. He is not in prison, he is scheduled to train this morning.”

The criminal charges against the forward were laid by Danish authorities in April, July and August 2022.

Amoo joined FC Copenhagen in January 2022 from Swedish side Hammarby for €4.4m.
