2023/2024: CAF announces date for Champions League, Confederation Cup draws

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the date for the draws of the inter-club cup competitions – Champions League and Confederation Cups for the 2023/2024 season.

Sixty-six (66) teams from fifty-four (54) associations which includes Nigeria’s Enyimba International FC of Aba who were the winners of the Nigerian Premier Football (NPFL) league last season and runners-up, Remo Stars FC will take part in the 60th edition of the CAF Champions League.

Similarly, forty-nine (49) teams from thirty-seven (37) associations will take part in the confederations cup. Nigeria Federations Cup (FA Cup) winners, Bendel Insurance FC and Rivers United of Port Harcourt who finished third in the NPFL last season will be flying the flag of Nigeria at the confederations cup.

It is expected that the qualifying rounds for the Champions League will be played from the 18th of August to the 30th of September 2023 while the competition proper will be from the 24th of November to the 26th of May 2024.

The Qualifying rounds for the confederations cup will kick off on the 20th of August and till the 1st of October 2023, while the Competition proper will be from the 26th of November to the 17th of May 2024 with the format and venues for the finals expected to be announced during the draws.

The winners of the first and second preliminary rounds are expected to go directly to the group stage in both the Champions League and the confederations cup.

Meanwhile, the newly introduced Africa Football League (Super League) will begin in October 2023.

The draws for the 2023/24 season of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary stages will be conducted at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday 25th July 2023 by 11 AM Nigerian time.
