Following his appointment a fortnight ago, Kanu Nwankwo has officially commenced duties as the new Enyimba Chairman.
The former Nigeria International was appointed among 30 persons by Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State.
Nwankwo Kanu has taken over the mantle of leadership at Enyimba from Felix Anyasi-Agwu, who was Chairman of the Nigerian giant for 24 years.
Anyansi-Agwu led the Aba-based side to several successes on the continent and the home front, including; 9 Nigeria top-flight league titles and 2 CAF Champions League titles.
Reports have also been circulating of the NFF Vice President “fighting back” to further his stay as Chairman of the People’s Elephant.
According to Soccernet Nigeria, an unnamed source said: “It is true that Nwankwo Kanu has been named as our new chairman, but our former boss Anyansi is doing everything possible to hold on to that position.”
Enyimba Chairman Kanu Nwankwo will be bringing his massive wealth of experience, having played the game at the highest level.
However, it is worth noting that being involved in the game as a footballer is a different terrain from being involved as an administrator.
The 46-year-old represented several gigantic sides in Europe, including; Ajax, Inter Milan and Arsenal.
Kanu has his work cut out for him though, as he will be saddled with a lot of responsibilities that must be tackled head-on.
Additionally, he must already be acquainted with the lofty heights of the Nigeria champions.
Winning the Nigeria Premier Football League title last term offered manager Finidi George enough leverage to further his stay at the club.
However, Kanu Nwankwo must also hit the ground running by implementing and making needed decisions that will further elevate Enyimba.
He has also made his influence felt, starting off in a seemingly rash manner by dissolving the technical crew of the most successful club in Nigeria.
It was a decision that needed further clarification on the position of Finidi George as manager and Kanu Nwankwo revealed that his former teammate was exempted from the decision.
The role handed to the former Arsenal player at Enyimba is a very herculean one and tongues will continue to wag over his handling of the side.
This will come to the fore due to the massive standards laid by his predecessor.
