Nigeria’s D’Tigress will face Senegal after the Lionesses set up a colossal showdown with an impressive victory over Mali in the second semi-final of the 2023 Women’s Afrobasketball Championship.
Earlier in the day, D’Tigress secured their spot in the final by defeating the host nation, Rwanda, in the first semi-final, marking their fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament’s final.
The semi-final clash between Senegal and Mali unfolded at the BK Arena in Kigali. Despite a keenly contested encounter, it was Mali who managed to take a slight lead, leading 38-36 at halftime.
However, the Senegalese team demonstrated their mettle during the third quarter, turning the tide in their favour and taking control of the game. By the end of the third quarter, Senegal had gained a significant advantage, leading 60-49.
Mali, unwilling to surrender easily, put up a spirited fight in the final quarter, trying to crack the formidable Senegalese defence. Despite their valiant efforts, they ultimately fell short, and Senegal emerged victorious with a final score of 75-65.
With this decisive triumph, Senegal has earned the opportunity to face Nigeria’s D’Tigress in the highly anticipated championship final, slated to take place at the BK Arena in Kigali on Saturday.
