Enyimba FC, the Nigerian Premier Football League champions, on Sunday Morning, walked out of their TICO/Select Pre-season tournament semi-final against FC ONE Rocket.
As reported by SportsRation, the match, played on Saturday, ended 1-1 and was decided by a penalty shootout. However, Enyimba FC’s goalkeeper complained about poor visibility, leading to the match being rescheduled for Sunday.
The competition organizers and match commissioner decided to complete the remaining minutes of the second half from the previous day before the penalty shootout, a decision opposed by FC ONE Rocket.
After some dialogue, FC ONE Rocket agreed to continue, but then Enyimba FC decided to walk out of the match for personal reasons.
This decision according to Enyimba was made to avoid potential confusion or conflicts. However, fans at the venue were not happy with this unsportsmanlike move.
As a result, FC ONE Rocket was awarded the victory, and they will now face Abia Warriors FC in the 2023 TICO/Select Pre-season tournament final on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the Uyo Township Stadium in Akwa Ibom State.
