Andy Okpe, the talented attacker for Rivers United, has explained the celebration from his vital goal he scored on Thursday against Remo Stars was nothing ‘personal’, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The game held extra personal importance for Okpe, given his previous affiliation with Remo Stars last season before joining the Pride of Rivers this season.
In the latter stages of the game, the lanky forward delivered the crucial goal that effectively dashed Remo Stars’ hopes of securing any points from the encounter.
Reflecting on the match, Okpe revealed the motivation behind his performance, saying,
“I’m very happy to score, and the goal means a lot to me. I gave my all to secure that goal because we were determined to overturn the defeat we suffered last weekend in Kaduna.”
“Though it wasn’t easy, I fought relentlessly to contribute to a positive outcome, because Rivers United is all about winning.”
Speaking on facing his former club, Okpe shared, “This is my former club. I know more about them than any other player here. I know them inside out. We are here to pursue every available trophy. My celebration was nothing personal.”
Rivers United now sit fourth with three points on the Nigeria Premier Football League standings.
