Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca has disclosed to the media that the two Nigerian compatriots, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho are currently undergoing treatment with doubts clouding their availability for the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s quest for glory at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 set to take place in 12 days from now in Ivory Coast, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
However, Ndidi was on the sidelines due to injury in Leicester City’s 4-1 victory over Huddersfield Town at King Power Stadium on New Year’s Day. Iheanacho also missed out on action as a result of a muscular problem.
“Kele and Wilf are both injured, but they are now going to be with the international team. We’ll see if they’re going to keep them or send them back. But they are both injured unfortunately for us.” Maresca was quoted by Leicester Mercury.
The Portuguese gaffer, José Peseiro and his 25-man Super Eagles squad will begin preparations for Africa’s biennial tournament in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on Tuesday. However, as of the time of this report, no confirmation yet from the camp if the Foxes’ duo would be fully fit in the shortest period for the Group A opener.
