The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has officially stripped Guinea of the hosting rights for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 with a new bidding process set to be announced today.
This means Nigeria might be in contention to co-host the biennial tournament after, the former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Melvin Pinnick suggested Nigeria’s readiness.
On Friday, the president of CAF, Patrice Motsepe as well as the General Secretary, Veron Omba Mosengo paid an official visit to Conakry, the Guinea capital to meet with the country’s head of state, Mamadi Doumbouya.
After the meeting, it was concluded Guinea will not host the tournament and according to multiple reports, the Guinea Football Federation has officially notified CAF of relinquishing the hosting rights.
Multiple reports from Guinea suggest that the country’s football federation has finally notified CAF about its withdrawal as the host of the tournament.
CAF will today conduct the draws for the 2023 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) after which the bidding process for AFCON 2025 will be announced.
A joint bid from Nigeria and Benin Republic, Morocco and Algeria have earlier indicated their interest to stage Africa’s biggest football event.
