Tobiloba Amusan the reigning 100m women’s hurdles champion, will miss out on the forthcoming 2023 World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
This absence comes in the wake of her suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), leading to her exclusion by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
The AFN revealed a roster of athletes set to represent the nation, and Amusan’s name was conspicuously absent from the list.
The AFN had recently organized trials at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State, to assess athletes’ performances. Those who met the required standards and times set by World Athletics were selected for the competition.
Regrettably, the diligent athlete’s name was omitted from the roster. Despite her commitment to vindicate herself, time constraints loom, as the championship is scheduled to occur between August 17th and August 29th, 2023
This Commonwealth champion found herself in hot water after the Athletics Integrity Unit suspended her for failing to comply with mandatory doping tests on three separate instances.
