The much-awaited Season 2 of the Yucateco Boxing League is slated to commence in June 2024 according to Yucateco Boxing Promotions, organizers of the first-ever boxing league in Nigeria.
Technical Director of Yucateco boxing promotions Babatunde Laguda said interested Boxers, Coaches, Match officials, and Boxing clubs can register via the outfit website www.yucatecoboxing.com/apply.
In his words: “The registration portal is now open on our website and interested participants from boxers, coaches, match officials as well as boxing clubs can now apply to part of Season 2 of the league”
“We have also concluded plans to stage a national trial in Lagos between the 24th to 26th of this month, the trial is open boxers within and outside Nigeria”
“What we hope to achieve with the open trial is to enable registered clubs to scout for new talents they can include in their ranks, interested clubs can also use the medium to prepare their pugilists for the league proper”An elated Laguda further gave a breakdown of the prize money and other incentives for Season 2.

“I am pleased to announce that we have increased the prize money from 20m in the first season to 50m for the new season which gets on the way in June”
“The big pay is not solely for the eventual winner, the individual boxers will also smile to the bank as the top-ranked boxers in each weight category will receive 2m naira, the second-ranked boxers will get 1m naira, while the third-ranked boxers in each weight category will pocket the sum of 500,000 naira at the end of the season”.
Twelve (12) clubs will participate in Season 2 of the Yucateco boxing league, and the bouts will run for 17 weeks. The event will be held across several states as the organizers have called for collaboration with state government and corporate bodies willing to host the bouts at specific locations.
