BOWFT23: Teams learn group opponents as organizers unveil Bluejay as Mascot




With the 3rd Edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women’s football tournament, BOWFT23 is scheduled to kick off on the 23 October, the official draws for the competition took place at the Government House, Benin City, Edo state on Friday, October 30, Platinumewsng.com is reporting.

The draws which were scheduled for 10:00 am commenced minutes after 12 with a beautiful rendition from LXX Choral before the introduction of guests.

The Mascot of the tournament was unveiled by the designer Tony Ifemije, who worked on the design in line with the theme of the tournament and the image of Her Excellency, Betsy Obaseki before the unveiling of the theme song of the event by the LXX Choral.

In her opening remark, the First Lady noted that the event was solely a private sector-driven event and sees the tournament continuing every year and attaining global recognition.

This annual tournament is aimed at tackling vices experienced in society, the theme for this year’s edition is tagged STOP GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE In a bid to develop young talents in professional football, this edition would see two amateur teams competing in this elite competition.

Four teams (Edo Queen, FC Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and Delta Queens) were seeded based on their performance from the previous NWFL season. The teams include all 4 teams that participated in the semifinals of the NWFL tournament last season.

The pioneer of the competition also received the Champions of the just concluded Sheroes Cup, Edo Queens and promised to gift the team 1 million naira if they can replicate this feat by clinching the cup in the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament.
