Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has extended a late invitation to Maduka Okoye ahead of the international friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
As reported by the Media Officer of the Super Eagles, Babafemi Raji, as at on Wednesday morning, 20 players were in camp, with Francis Uzoho being the sole goalkeeper among them. Ojo Olorunleke is awaiting is Portugese Visa and will join up with the squad when the Nigeria Football Federation delegation arrives Portugal.
Hapoel Jerusalem goalie, Adebayo Adeleye is having issues with the Portugese visa as the crisis in the Israeli region is an issue for him.
The Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was announced on Wednesday afternoon to have been invited. The reason for his sudden invitation was however not disclosed.
Okoye had previously been a key player under former coach Gernot Rohr. However, he fell out of favour upon Jose Peseiro’s arrival due to a loss of form and lack of regular playtime with his club.
The goalkeeper who made a summer move to Udinese from Watford FC and has been an unused substitute for the Italian Serie A side.
In fact, the last time Maduka Okoye played a competitive game was 414 days ago, when he featured in Watford’s 2-0 loss to MK Dons on the 23rd of August, 2022.
