CMD Cup 2023 Begins with Five Goals in Four Games



The 7th edition of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital’s Inter-Professional Tournament, famously known as the CMD Cup, commenced today with an exhilarating display of football as five goals were scored in four games, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

Professor Darlington Obaseki, the CMD of the hospital, inaugurated the tournament with a ceremonial kick-off at the newly renovated UBTH mini stadium. The ongoing renovations include construction of a covered stadium’s stand, dressing rooms and bathrooms, nearing completion.



The opening games witnessed a total of five goals scored across four exciting matches, marking a lively start to the competition.

Prominent figures, including Osaigbovo Iyoha, the Chief of Staff, and Kindness Ohiowele, the Vice Chairman of the Edo Football Association, graced the event alongside other distinguished members of the Edo FA board.

NNPC 0-0 NBA

The first game of the day ended goalless between defending champions NNPC and NBA as both sides found it hard to net a goal despite multiple chances, in a keenly contested encounter.



BANKERS 1-1 EDO MLS

Bankers lived up to the hype against Edo MLS as two goals in quick succession ensured both teams shared the spoils under the scorching sun in Benin. Silas drew the first blood of the tournament shooting from range to beat Edo MLS goalkeeper who was off his line in the 14th minute. The celebration was however cut short as Captain of Edo MLS, Divine levelled from the center circle of the pitch immediately after game restarted. His strike threw the entire mini stadium into wild jubilations for his goal which is a goal of the tournament contender.



NMA 0-1 EDO COACHES

It ended in a narrow defeat for the Nigeria Medical Association as they narrowly lost to Edo coaches by a lone goal in the third game of the day. Professor Obaseki who was on the touchline for NMA was left unhappy as Edo Coaches got all necessary three points.




PHYSIOTHERAPY 0-2 DOMINION ALL STARS

Dominion All Stars dominated Physiotherapy in the fourth game of the day with two goals. This victory puts Dominion All Stars top of Group B.
