CMD Cup: Bankers advance to Quarter Final, NBA bows out

Bankers knocked out Nigeria Bar Association to progress to the quarter finals of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Inter Professional Football Tournament currently going on at the UBTH mini stadium, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

Prior to the game, Bankers were third on the log with only one point. Anything short of a victory meant they will not be progressing to the next round of the tournament. NBA on the other hand, were second on the group with two points from two draws. A draw would have been enough to take them to the next round but the god of football had other plans.

Paul for Bankers was the shining light as he struck twice to seal qualification for Bankers in the keenly contested encounter. It took Bankers 69 minutes to break the deadlock. A spot kick was awarded for a handball offence rightly spotted by the centre referee. Paul then converted from the spot.

Two minutes after the opener, Paul increased the tally as he connected to an header from a set piece. With few minutes until the end of the game, Bankers defended well to keep their two goal lead intact.

NNPC and Bankers have now advanced to the next round after finishing first and second respectively in Group A. Bankers and Medical Laboratory Scientists have bowed out of the tournament.

Games continue on Tuesday as Physiotherapy host Nigeria Medical Association.
