Presenting the Staff of the Office to the Okphe-Ukpi, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who represented Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki said: “on behalf of the Governor and Government of Edo State, I present to you, Your Royal Highness, YRH, Thomas Ilogho, the Staff of Office associated with the title of the Okphe-Ukpi of Iraokhor”.

Shaibu attributed the delay in the presentation to the litigation that trailed his appointment for over ten years.
He affirmed that Iraokhor was one big family, reputed and known for peace and tranquillity.

The Deputy Governor was optimistic that all hands would be on deck, to bring about the much-needed development of the Iraokhor Community and its environs, in line with the vision, programs and policies of the Edo State Government.

According to the Deputy Governor, “no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of rancour”.

“In this regard, I appeal to you all to join the Okphe-Ukpi to use his exalted position to make a positive impact on the people, to chart the path of peace, tranquillity and development at all times”.

“In the same vein, I wish to implore everyone to be vigilant during the coming elections and to promptly report any strange and suspicious movements by anyone to the law enforcement agencies for prompt and necessary action”.

Shaibu reiterated that the State Government would not tolerate any situation capable of undermining the peace and tranquillity of the Iraokhor Community and Edo State in general.

He urged the traditional ruler to be fair and firm in taking decisions affecting his subjects.

In his remarks, Edo State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo, enjoined traditional rulers in the State to continue to pray and support Governor Godwin Obaseki, the good people and the Government of Edo State – as they have always done – to take the State to the next level of development.

He said Obaseki holds traditional rulers in high esteem as demonstrated by his recent directive to pay the five percent statutory allocation, in addition to councils’ five percent revenue grant due to them.

Delivering his address, the Okphe-Ukpi of Iraokhor, His Royal Highness, Thomas Ilogho, appreciated the State Government for its developmental efforts in Iraokhor Community while assuring the Deputy Governor of total support in his future endeavours.
