In the wake of a disappointing Nigeria Premier Football League Super Six campaign that saw the dreams of continental football dashed for fans of Bendel Insurance, the permanent secretary of the Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs Sabina Chikere has stepped forward to address the disappointed fans and appeal for patience.
Speaking with Platinum News on Monday afternoon, Mrs Sabina Chikere acknowledged the team’s shortcomings but promised to leave no stone unturned in their quest to secure the Federation Cup trophy and clinch a spot at the Confederation Cup.
Bendel Insurance, known for its rich history and passionate fanbase, fell short of expectations in the Super Six after playing three draws and two consecutive losses, narrowly missing out on qualification for the continental tournament.
Addressing the loyal supporters, the sports commission secretary urged patience and understanding in these trying times. She empathized with their frustration but emphasized the need for unity and belief in the team’s potential.
Recognizing the importance of their unwavering support, she assured fans that every effort would be made to rectify their misfortunes and bring home the oldest trophy and qualify for the continent.
“We just came back, Bendel Insurance is a work in progress, although not the response we expected but it is not over until it is over.
We still have a federation cup to attend to on the 21st and we would go there with all our might. It’s a work in progress, we will get there.
It’s a disappointing result like I said, it is not over until it is over, we still have one more chance, we would make Edo state people proud on the 21st of this month”
As Benin City’s beloved Bendel Insurance regroups for the Federation Cup final on Wednesday, June 21, supporters are reminded that success often arises from the darkest of moments.
With the Sports Commission overseeing the team’s affairs, promising renewed determination and a burning desire to secure the Federation Cup and Confederations Cup ticket, supporters can take solace in the knowledge that the team is resolute in their pursuit of redemption.
