It was mixed feelings for the Department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology (CIT), Sunday evening as one of the two teams progressed to the final of the ongoing Faculty of Education Dean’s Cup and the other failed out courtesy of ill luck.
The women’s football team of the Department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology (CIT) lost out to luck in the first women’s semi-final match after losing 5-4 on penalties to the Department of Human Kinetics Studies Education.

The games which took place at the University of Benin sports complex training ground saw the two teams fail to register a goal in the entirety of the game filled with thrills, tackles, dribbles and saves.
The game started with the CIT girls dominating proceedings with two quick attacks that earned them a free kick but ended fruitless.
The HKS girls took possession and had a couple of chances to punish their opponents, but CIT goalkeeper, Felicity Igbinobosa stood tall to deny them two incessant opportunities.
CIT charged back with some good moves in the final third, but the forward line wasn’t biting enough to register any goal. Just a few minutes to the end of the first half, HKS had a golden opportunity to score from a promising free kick, but the resilient defence line of the Scientist was able to clear out for safety to force the first half into a goalless affair.
The second half hostilities resumed with HKS picking it from where they stopped, unleashing more ferocious attacks on their counterparts. To people’s amazement, Felicity Igbinobosa once again demonstrated why she’s the best shot-stopper in the faculty with the wonderful grabbing of the ball that took the onlooking crowd in amazement. The department’s Vice President went on to put up three other saves as the game climaxed.
The game went into kicks from the penalty mark and the HKS ladies won after their goalkeeper saved two kicks from the six played by CIT – though CIT also scored four from their kicks, but their goalkeeper (substituted to replace Felicity Igbinosa who couldn’t continue the game due to a sudden illness) could only save one from the opponents.
Earlier in the men’s first semi-final, the men’s team of CIT held their nerves to scale through from the shootouts of a game that ended in another barren draw.
Goalkeeper Caleb Okogbe demonstrated his good goalkeeping skills to save two kicks from the Adult and Non-Formal Education players to help his team into the final of the competition where they will face Health Service Education on Tuesday.
It was however Okomalin Ojo Johnbosco who sent the opposing goalkeeper the wrong way in the final kick to send his team into a wild celebration.
