Since the beginning of the year 2024, Nigerian teams have been on the hustle for different cups within and beyond the country for the advancement of Nigerian Football and its players.
Nigerian Football teams, both male and female categories, play the Nigerian Premier Football League and the President Federation Cup while the Nigerian U17 male and female are up for the upcoming West African Football Union, WAFU B U17 Championship in Ghana and Dominican Republic 2024 respectively.
The Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL male category is an ongoing competition that has started since last year. Currently, the competition is approaching its finish line as it is currently in its final stretch. Rangers International FC, Remo Stars, and Enyimba FC are the three top teams on the table with 57, 56, and 53 points respectively.
The President Federation Cup of the Men category Round 64, between 64 Nigerian teams is an ongoing tournament for the Nigerian teams which began on May 1st. The Round 64 for the male category was scheduled for May 1st and 2nd and it ended with 32 teams moving to Round 32. It is noteworthy that two teams, Plateau United and Sunshine Stars moved to Round 32 without kicking the ball. It was a Walk-Over game in which 3 goals each were awarded to both.
More so, the President Federation Cup of the Female category is set to begin tomorrow, May 8th. The female category will begin with Round 32 scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, the 8th and 9th of May, and 16 teams will move to Round 16. Amongst other teams scheduled for tomorrow, the Cup Bearer, Bayelsa Queens are up against Bright Future Queens of Enugu. The Edo Queens FC are up against Kada Queen FC tomorrow, as well.
The Nigerian male and female U17 teams are preparing for the forthcoming WAFU B U17 Championship and Dominican Republic 2024 respectively. The Nigerian U17 Boys, Golden Eaglets are currently in camp training against the competition. However, The Nigerian U17 Girls, Flamingos are up against Burkinabes in the Malian Capital, Bamako on the 11th of May at 4 p.m. in Mali time and 4:30 p.m. in Nigerian time.
At the onset, the year 2024 saw the end of the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in which the Nigerian Super Eagles ended in second place after losing to the host, Cote d’Ivoire, 2-1. However, that has not been the end of the Nigerian football.
