By Osaro Matthew

The Nigeria Premier Football League title race intensified on Monday evening as Remo Stars are now a point behind league leaders, Enugu  Rangers.

The Ikenne based side has usurped Enyimba to sit second on the log with 56 points after a difficult win against Rivers United at home.

A rescheduled match day 21 fixture for Monday, May 6 took place under the cold skies at the Remo Stars Stadium with fans drumming support for the Sky Blue Stars.

Remo Stars got the best of the game as it  ended 2-1. The home side had to fight back to get the victory after Andy Opke scored from the spot to give the visitors the lead in the 19th minute.

The host got themselves back into the game in the 68th minute as Haruna Hadi scored from Sikiru Alimi’s assist. Franck Mawuena header on the 83rd minute was the match decider as the host bagged maximum points.

Rivers United who have taken only two points out of 24 on the road, failed to extend their unbeaten streak against Remo Stars after seven wins and two draws against the host.

The Sky Blue Stars claim their first ever NPFL win over Rivers United in grand style in front of their fans and also ensure that the flying Antelopes are not out of reach.

Remo Stars victory makes the NPFL title race more interesting as the current top five clubs are likely to win the trophy.
