I was made the scapegoat for Heartland failures – Christian Obi

Former coach of Heartland International of Owerri, Christian Obi has exempted himself from the woes befalling the club while blaming it on the management of the club, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

Last Thursday, Christian Obi was sacked as coach of the Naze Millionaires as two-time Nigeria Premier Football League winner, Kennedy Boboye announced as replacement at the Owerri based team.

Speaking with Brila FM, Christian Obi exposed that there were a lot of behind the field issues affecting the team, as he faulted the team’s management’s as the reason behind the team’s horrendous start to the Nigeria Premier Football League 2023/24 season.

“There’s a lot of infighting within the management at the club. they exempted themselves when the hammer fell. The issues at the club is not from the coach but the management troubles.”

“They were only looking for who to put the blame on and I was the scapegoat.” Obi said

Despite appointing Boboye, Hearland lost 1-0 at home in matchday 10 of the NPFL to Enyimba. Heartland still remains winless in the top flight, losing six times and drawing four. The last time Heartland won a top flight game was 497 days ago when they defeated Kwara United 1-0 in matchday 38 of the 2021/22 season.

Boboye’s Heartland has a uphill task to face when they face high flying Shooting Stars away from home, at the Lekan Salami Stadium in matchday 11 of the NPFL.
