Lagos FA Cup: Inter silence Sporting in Lagos Derby

A dismal first-half performance consigned Sporting Lagos to a 2-0 defeat by Inter Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena at the ongoing Lagos FA Cup, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

After narrowly escaping defeat at the hands of Box 2 Box FC on Tuesday where the Noisy Lagosians won via penalty shootouts, they fell to a better side; Inter Lagos.

Coach Paul Offor started a strong XI with Christian Nwoke in goal but, they were unable to curtail the attacking strength of Inter Lagos.

The Pride of Lagos took the lead in the 11th minute courtesy of Tony Obia, who from the edge of the box superbly finished a pass from Abubakar Taheer.

With the early lead, Inter Lagos kept attacking for more and it paid off in the 45th minute. This time,  Taheer got a well-deserved goal. Obia the goalscorer, from his half of the pitch with a long pass combined with the left winger to score the second.

Dismayed by the result at halftime, Offor brought in Junior Lokosa, Henry Ndedi and Odinaka Okoro to remedy the situation, yet they were unable to score.

Gabriel Ezema tutored the side, stood resilient in defence to protect their lead and was forceful in attack seeking to increase the tally but, the scoreline remained the same.

Inter Lagos will now play at the Federation Cup but will have a battle for honours against either Ikorodu City FC or First Bank FC in the final of the FA Cup.
