Like Enyimba, Remo Stars crash out of CAF Champions League
Remo Stars, faced another continental disappointment on home turf as they exited the CAF Champions League first preliminary rounds via penalty shootouts.
Last Sunday, the Sky Blues Boys narrowly lost to Ghana’s Medeama SC 1-0, the reigning Ghana Premier League champions, at the Cape Coast Stadium.
With the return leg at the Remo Stars Stadium, breaking through Medeama’s defence proved to be a tough challenge for Remo Stars, resulting in a goalless first half.
The second half saw Remo Stars maintain control, putting Medeama SC on the defensive. A decisive moment arrived in the 73rd minute with an own goal that ignited celebrations in the stadium. Remo Stars thought they had gotten the winner at the death of the game but the linesman flag was up. Remo Stars couldn’t secure the victory, ending with a 1-0 score and a 1-1 aggregate tie.
The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, during which the host faltered, missing 3 penalty kicks. The final score favoured Medeama SC at 3-2, ending Remo Stars’ campaign in the tournament.
