NPFL2023: Adebayo Waheed nets first campaign goal as Heartland, Lobi Stars share spoils

As the 2023/24 season of the Nigerian Premier Football League commenced, it was goal galore as 21 goals were accumulated over all centers on Matchday 1 platinumnewsng.com reports.

With a total of 7 matches and 14 teams kick-starting their campaign in this new season in matchday 1, Hadi Mohammed opened the goal chart for the season in  Akwa Uniteds 5-3 loss to Bayelsa United.

In an interesting match with the away team ahead in the 20th minute, Alex Jerry pulled one back for the home side to draw them level but were stunned by a deflected shot from Seyi Oguntayo in the 38th minute to raise the hopes of the promise keepers.

With the game heading into a 2-2 draw for both sides, the second half was not as intriguing as the first but was stunned into life in the 76th minute with Seyi netting his second of the day. The Home side soon hot back into the game and found the back of the net in the 82nd, 87th and 90th minutes with Robert Mizo registering his name on the scoresheet thrice, the first hat-trick of the season and Emmanuel Nneoyi crowing it all up in the last minutes.

In the other fixtures of the day, Heartland FC and Lobi Stars shared a point apiece having played a 2-2 draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.  Patrick Nwogbaga and Eziekiel Bassey were on the scoresheet for the Naze Millionaires while Adebayo waheed and Francis Odinaka penned their names for the Orton Boys.
