NPFL24: Sarki and Osaghae seals Insurance win over Enugu Rangers

On a Saturday evening where Bendel Insurance gameplay was poor, Junior Osaghae and Sarki Ismael goal was enough to secure maximum points for the Benin Arsenal in matchday 17 of the Nigeria Premier Football League, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

Monday Odigie made only one change from the side that shared spoils with Rivers United in a 1-1 draw the previous matchday. Osaghae replaced Zaidu Ayuba.

The action began with Enugu Rangers applying pressure in the first 10 minutes as defensive errors, almost cost Insurance. Bendel Insurance however got the first in the 14th minute. Osaghae was the goalscorer with a free header, with the unmarked winger netting a cross from Paul Obata.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s undeterred by conceding the first, kept on applying pressure but still found it hard to score. The pairing of Sunday Anyawu and Tanimu Benjamin proved too tough a nut for the Flying Antelopes to crack. Despite the goal, Insurance poor gameplay saw them find it hard to net the second as they had to defend for the most of the first 45.

Coming into the second half, Insurance style of play was still poor with no improvement. In a bid to change things, Odigie introduced Divine Nwachukwu for Chisom Okereke in the 54th minute.

The 62nd minute had Enugu Rangers goalie, Detan Ogundare commit a howler that saw him gift Sarki the second goal of the day. With the second goal scored, Rangers morale dropped and Insurance began to dictate play. Efe Enabulele, Austin Ogunye, Chukwudi Meze and Ebuka Akobundu all featured as substitutes for the Benin Arsenal in their 2-0 victory.

Bendel Insurance currently are placed fourth and will now travel to face Bayelsa United in matchday 18 of the NPFL
