Ikorodu City maintained their newly found form following Bright Ozebagbe resignation while league leaders, Rivers United maintained top spot with an away victory.
Match day eight of the Nigeria Premier Football League saw very interesting fixtures across various match centers. Six games were played on Sunday while the remaining four took place on Monday.
Bayelsa United 1:0 Heartland
The Prosperity boys who have had a poor start to the season got maximum points at the Samson Siasia Stadium. The winning goal came in the 54th minute from Rabiu Abdullahi. The result puts the home side three points above their counterpart on the log.
Kano Pillars 1:1 Kwara United
Super Eagles international, Ahmed Musa led side, Kano Pillars couldn’t find their scoring boots on Sunday as they had to come from behind to get a point at home. Muhammed Zulkifilu levelled the score for Kano Pillars seven minutes after Issa Gata gave Kwara United the lead in the 50th minute.
Sunshine Stars 1:0 Nasarawa United
In Ijebu – Ode, Kennedy Boboye’s side, Sunshine Stars defeated Nasarawa United by a lone goal. The goal came in the 17th minute from Opeoluwa Olufemi.
Abia Warriors 3:1 Plateau United
It was a dramatic first half at the Umuahia Township Stadium. Sadiq Abubakar had given the away side the lead five minutes before half time but two goals from Sunday Megwo and Ojonugwa Adejoti in added time turned the game around. Paul Samson sealed the victory for the home side in the 56th minute to the delight of the home supporters.
El-Kanemi Warriors 1:0 Enyimba
It was a massive three points for the home side at the El-Kanemi Warriors sports center. Usman Abbas strike in first half added time, was all that was needed to defeat the people’s elephant who are without a win in three matches.
Remo Stars 1:0 Bendel Insurance
Remo Stars momentarily returned to the apex of the log after a one nil victory over the Benin arsenals at the Remo Stars Stadium,Ikenne. Dela Akorli’s goal in the 43rd minute gave the home side the needed victory.
Ikorodu City 4:2 Lobi Stars
Three matches after the resignation of Bright Ozebagbe as head coach, Ikorodu City are yet to lose, with two wins and a draw. It was a dramatic first half at the Mobolaji Johnson arena, Onikan. Salisu Yusuf and Emmanuel Solomon gave the home side a two nil lead, 20 minutes into the game. The away side equalized in added time from an Ifeanyi Assurance brace. Solomon Alade and Rivio Ayemwenre sealed the victory in the second half for the in-form Oga boys.
Niger Tornadoes 0:1 Rivers United
Finidi George’s side, Rivers United maintain their top spot on match day eight after a one nil victory away from home. Seiyefa Jackson’s 47th minute strike was enough to give Rivers United the maximum points.
3SC 1:0 Katsina United
A lone goal from Mustapha Agba in the 68th minute was all that was written at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
Akwa United 0:0 Rangers
It was a goalless scoreline at the next of champions in Uyo with both side failing to convert their chances. The result means the home side remains in relegation zone.
