The abridged 2022/23 season of the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership came to an end on Thursday morning after Edo Queens defeated Abia Angels in a rescheduled tie at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Edo Queens’ game against Abia Angels was abandoned due to torrential rainfall in Umuahia.
The match continued on Thursday morning as Omotoke Odueke’s fantastic goal was enough to secure maximum points. Although, regardless of the win, Edo Queens was bound to finish top of Group B
In other fixtures, Robo Queens’ 4-0 thrashing of Confluence Queens means the Lagos-based club moved to second with 22 points while Confluence Queens dropped to third position with 21 points. Nasarawa Amazons also humiliated Adamawa Queens 5-0.
Edo Queens, Confluence Queens and Robo Queens secured NWFL six qualification from Group B while Osun Babes were relegated from top-flight women’s football.
In Group A, Delta Queens sealed the top spot after securing a point in a tightly contested game against Rivers Angels at the Stephen Keshi Stadium with Delta Queens topping the group with 26 points, a point more than second-place Bayelsa Queens, who thrashed Naija Ratels 3-0 at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
Rivers Angels clinched the third position in Group A with 20 points.
Delta Queens who finished the season without losing a game, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels have all booked a place in the NWFL Super Six while Ibom Angels have been relegated from the NWFL.
