‎The former league and WAFU champions must beat Abia Angels tomorrow morning to remain in contention for the league title and hope for the CAF tournament.

‎The Benin City Queens gave a good account of themselves in yesterday’s crucial match against the Athletic FC Robo Queens of Lagos. Despite Robo Queens’  resistance, Edo Queens overpowered them and recorded an emphatic 4-1 win to secure their first three points in the competition.

‎Edo Queens suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa Amazon in the opening match of the NWFL Super Six, putting the girls under pressure.

‎Abia Angels on the other hand have caused some upset in the tournament being held in Port Harcourt as they shockingly beat former Champions Rivers Angels 1-0 in their second match after holding another former champions Bayelsa Queens to a 1-1 draw in their day one encounter. They have been the giant killers in the tournament.

‎Speaking ahead of the clash tomorrow, the captain of Edo Queens Deborah Odiagbe expressed the confidence that Abia Angels cannot be any stronger huddle capable of hindering the progress of the former WAFU- B  champions.

‎According to her, “Abia Angels shouldn’t be a team to give Edo Queens sleepless nights. However, there will be no complacency,we are going to take them on fire for fire, strength for strength and speed for speed. Victory is the only thing we need tomorrow”. she enthused.

‎Nasarawa Amazons are the only team that has won their two games. They are currently topping the Super 6 table with 6 points from two matches, Abia Angels are 2nd with 4 points from two games, Edo Queens are third with 3 points from two matches while Rivers Angels sit 4th with 3 points and defending champions Bayelsa Queens occupy 5th position with 3 points. FC Robo Queens are last with no points so far.

‎Meanwhile the Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele who has been with  Edo Queens since day one of the competition has charged the girls to go for glory against Abia Angels and in the remaining matches. His presence has in no small way motivated the entire team.

‎In his words of encouragement to the players this evening, Enabulele again heaped praise on the players over the 4-1 bashing of FC Robo Queens in yesterday’s encounter. He told them to see themselves as champions as they file out against Umuahia girls tomorrow and dictate the pace. ” The game is yours. Go out there and deliver. Then, come and get your prizes. I am here with you and some other top government officials are also coming to support you.” Enabulele encouraged them.
