Thursday came with another shock for another top-flight club in the Nigeria Premier Football League, as Beyond Limits went beyond Remo Stars in the semi-final of the ongoing Ogun FA Cup, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
Remo Stars fresh off a victory over defending champions of the Federation Cup, Bendel Insurance could not defeat Beyond Limits under the rising sun at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
Beyond Limits started the game with so much intensity against the Sky Blue Stars, proving too hot to handle for Daniel Ogunmodede’s side. The intensity paid off as the Viareggio Cup champions took the lead early in the sixth-minute courtesy of Chukwudi Isaac. Faruq Ogundare with a through pass from his half of the pitch connected with Chukwudi who finished off the ball by rounding Remo goalie; Vincent Edafe.
Shocked by the intent of the young boys, Remo Stars began to find the equaliser which came in the 28th minute from Haruna Hadi. Haruna benefitted from a poor defensive clearance outside the 18, to score with a long-range effort far beyond the reach of Beyond Limits goalie, Favour Aputaziem.
With the game level, both sides kept trying to increase their tally with Beyond Limits missing several goal-scoring chances. A moment of shock came in the 58th minute when Adebayo Dikko was shown red after receiving a second yellow.
Unperturbed, Beyond Limits stuck with their beautiful style of football to trouble but were unable to find the lead. Shocked by the bravery of the young lads, Aniekeme Okon and Dayo Ojo were introduced into the game but neither of the duo could find the back of the net against a well-structured defence. The 89th minute saw both teams reduced to 10 men with Adedayo Olamilekan booked for the second time.
After 90 minutes of regular action ending 1-1, the game was decided on penalties and the brilliance of Beyond Limits goalie, Favour Aputaziem was shown to the crowd as he convincingly saved Adams Olamilekan’s spot kick. Adios Ganiyu on his path converted his spot kick to send Beyond Limits to the final of the Ogun FA Cup winning 5-4 on penalties.
Beyond Limits has now qualified for the Federation Cup and will fight for honours against the winner between Abeokuta Stormers Sports Club and Ijebu United.
