The 2025 Edo State Football Association Cup kicked off with eleven goals from four matches as St Andrews, Dynamo Academica, and Restoration FC secured passage into the main stage of the competition.
The first game involved Restoration Football Club against Shooting Arrows Football Club, with Restoration FC emerging victorious courtesy of Christopher Mesoja’s lone goal in the 23rd minute. The narrow victory got them to a promising start.
ST Andrews FC in the second game, overpowered West Gate FC 3-1. Godspower Irabor’s 12th-minute penalty and Kelly Friday’s 29th-minute strike handed ST Andrews a comfortable half-time lead. Etori Benjamin sealed the win with an 80th-minute goal, rendering West GatFC’s lone goal useless. Coach Banna Johnson of ST Andrews expressed his excitement about the win, given that they had lost to West Gate in a previous friendly. ” it’s a great achievement because we showed them that this is a different competition, he said, praising his team for adhering to instructions. Coach Johnson also highlighted Emmanuel John, the man of the match, as the playmaker who orchestrated their victory.
The third game began with a minute silence in honour of Dynamo Academica’s pioneer coach, late coach Shedrach Osasu. Dynamo Academica took to the field with grit and determination, dominating the game. Bisat Wude and Ger Dennis scored in the 28th and 40 minutes, respectively, to give Dynamo a 2-0 lead by halftime, while Osudenniel Marvellous sealed the 3-0 victory with a stunning strike for Dynamo Academica. Coach Ola Olu of Dynamo reflected on the games, stating that his team executed their strategy well. He also acknowledged that there are areas to work on to stay ahead of the curve, especially as they have a strong opponent next.
The final match of the day ended in a walkover victory for Eagle Wings FC as their opponent, After Math F.C failed to show up.
The Edo State FA Chairman, Mr Fred Newton, beamed with excitement at the kickoff of the highly anticipated Edo State FA Cup 2025. He extended his gratitude to everyone who has acknowledged the Edo State FA’s approach to grassroots football development.

The Chairman highlighted the significant sponsorship secured for this year’s tournament as the largest since his administration took office. He expressed appreciation to existing sponsors and extended an invitation to additional partners to join forces with the Edo State FA.
