The semi-final match of the Platinum Cup pre-season scouting tournament lived up to the expectations, as two of the most impressive teams in the tournament, Rolly FC and Eagle Wings booked a spot in the final.
From the start, the four teams showed a lot of intensity, with their players fighting for every ball and not giving each other any space to work with, however there can only be one winner from a knockout game. Hence, we have two from four with three goals recorded.
BJ FC 1-3 Rolly FC
In an electrifying clash, BJ FC took the lead early on, with a well-placed shot that left the BJ FC goalkeeper, Adebayor Samson with no chance.
However, BJ FC quickly regained their composure and started to put more pressure on Rolly’s defense and it paid off with a goal from . BJ FC came close to increasing the tally on a couple of occasions, but Rolly’s goalkeeper made some excellent saves to keep things level.
As the second half began, Chijioke Egonatu’s side continued to push forward, resulting into two goals in six minutes.
Florence Joshua 0-1 Eagle Wings
Despite their best efforts, Florence Joshua failed to find the back of the net in a match ended 1-0 in favor of Eagle Wings. It was a hard-fought victory for Eagle Wings who showed great resilience and determination to hold on to their lead.
A penalty well taken by John Jerry won the game for ‘The Eagles’.Their defence were organized and disciplined, not allowing any gaps for the opposition to exploit in an attempt for a leveller.
The semi finals was a testament to the quality of football on display at the maiden edition of Platinum Cup. The four teams gave their all, and the match was played in a competitive but fair spirit. It was a fantastic advert for grassroots football and a reminder of the talent that exists at this level.
Rolly Fc now advance to the final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final, Eagle Wings. Both teams will be hoping to continue their impressive form and lift the trophy at the end of the tournament.
