Ahead the 2024 Australian Open kicking off next week Sunday, American teenager and Kazakhstani world number 4, Elena Rybakina both enjoyed individual title victories on Sunday, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
In Auckland, Cori “Coco”Gauff successfully defended her Auckland Classic title by battling back from a set down to defeat Elina Svitolina 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-3 to record her seventh win in eight career WTA Tour singles finals so far.
The nineteen-year-old American who is currently ranked 3rd in the WTA ranking has now won 29 of her past 33 singles matches.
Meanwhile, Elena Rybakina claimed the Brisbane International title with a dominant straight-set win over top rival, Aryna Sabalenka.
The match was a repeat of last year’s Australian Open final, in which Sabalenka fought back from a set down to win her first major title, but on this occasion Rybakina beat the Belarusian aside 6-0 6-3.
The 112th edition of the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament is set to hold at Melbourne Park, from 14–28 January 2024.
