Continental-bound Rivers United have named Nyima Nwagua as the new captain of the Pride of Rivers following the retirement of their former captain, Festus Austin who has picked up a new role at the club.
Ahead of the new season, Festus Austin chose to hang up his boots, bidding adieu to an illustrious football career. He now assumes the role of Team Coordinator for the 2021/2022 NPFL champions.
“We are thrilled to introduce Festus Austin as our newly appointed Team Coordinator,” proclaimed Charles Mayuku, the club’s media officer, on Monday, August 14, 2023.
Austin, renowned as a steadfast centre-back, seamlessly transitions into this fresh responsibility ahead of the upcoming 2023/2024 season. His leadership prowess was evident during his tenure as Rivers United’s captain.
The Pride of Rivers has now bestowed the captain’s armband upon striker Nyima Nwagua, succeeding the retiring Festus Austin.
Nwagua’s adept leadership was evident in the previous season, where he frequently donned the captain’s mantle.
