Second Edition of Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament – Draws Procedure

The second edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament is a few hours away from kick-off and all things are set for the tournament with the draws taking place at 6 pm Wednesday, September 7 at the New Festival Hall, Edo State government house, Benin City.

Here is the outlined procedure for the draws.

The draw for the second edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament takes place at the New Festival Hall, Edo State Government House, Benin City, on Wednesday from 6 PM, WAT.

Seeded clubs
Four teams, based on their records at the tournament are seeded: Edo Queens, Naija Ratels, Delta Queens, and Nasarawa Amazons.

Unseeded clubs
Unseeded clubs are the teams selected based on their NWFL Premiership standing and Nationwide position: Royaltoms International FC, Braveheart Ladies FC, Fortress Ladies FC, Royal Queens FC, Osun Babes FC, FC Robo, Confluence Queens FC, Sunshine Queens FC, Heartland Queens FC.

Further conditions
Clubs from the same state will not be drawn against each other in the group stage. By this, Edo Queens FC, Braveheart Ladies FC and Fortress Ladies FC from Edo State will not be grouped. Also, FC Robo and Royaltoms International FC from Lagos will not be grouped and the two teams from Delta state, Delta Queens and Royal Queens will avoid each other.

Since there are 13 teams in the competition, a group will have 4 teams while three other groups will have 3 teams each.

Two teams each for the 4 groups will progress to the quarter-finals.

Under the draw procedure, 4 red balls containing the seeded teams and 4 red balls containing groups will be placed – A1, B1, C1 AND D1.

9 red balls containing the names of the Unseeded teams are placed in a bowl. Nine group numbers are also placed in another 9 balls to determine which groups the teams will be grouped in.

Group matches start on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
