…admonishes beauty queens to be role models
Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, Friday hosted contestants of the 2023 Miss ITV Nigeria Beauty Pageant, including members of the Organising Committee. He hosted them in his private residence in Benin City.
Receiving the contestants and members of the ITV/Radio Special Events Committee, the Deputy Governor charged the beauty queens to be role models to society, particularly the girl child.
According to him: “I urge you contestants to serve as role models to the girl-child and promote Edo State and by extension, Nigeria, as a centre of peace, development, unity and sustainable growth”.
Shaibu called on the beauty pageant contestants to be confident, and bold at all times and refused to be intimidated.
He commended the Management of ITV, particularly the Founder/proprietor, Sir Chief (Dr) Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, for the initiative, noting that the platform equally serves as an avenue to give back to society.
While encouraging the contestants to see themselves as winners, the Deputy Governor urged the eventual winner to embark on pet projects that would be meaningful and impactful to society.
“Your pet projects are very critical and you must take them very seriously”, Shaibu added.
Earlier, Mr. Sunny Duke Okosun, Manager, Programmes and Chairman of the organising Committee of the Pageantry, who led the team to the Deputy Governor, commended Shaibu for being the new face of political activism in the State and Nigeria.
He explained that the beauty pageant is designed to give young girls who have the potential a platform to explore their abilities and impact society.
Okosun showered encomiums on Shaibu for his consistent support and empowerment for the youth constituency, while soliciting his assistance to make the beauty pageant a reality.
