Sunday Anyanwu joins Swedish side, Östersunds FK

Swedish outfit Ostersunds has announced the signing of former Bendel Insurance centre back Sunday Anyanwu, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

The 23-year-old centre back joins the Swedish second tier outfit on a two-year contract after completing the 2023/24 season with the Benin Arsenal.

Sunday Anyanwu made his public debut at Jämtkraft Arena today, where he received a warm reception from the ÖFK supporters. Before the match against Östers IF, he had the honour of delivering the match ball, in a match that ended as a goalless draw.

The centre back has been on trial with ÖFK for the past three weeks, impressing the management staff with his performances. He becomes the first player the club signs during this summer transfer window. The club wrote:

“Sunday has made a very good impression in training and reinforced the image we had of him from before. He is an aggressive and compliant centre-back who is also good in the passing game. It will be very exciting to follow his development when he has had more time to adapt to Sweden and the football here, says Stefan Lundin, sporting director at Östersunds FK.”

Anyanwu began his professional career with Bendel Insurance in 2020 having joined from Benin City Youth League side, Ine Stars. He played in the Nigeria National League with Bendel Insurance achieving promotion with the Benin based side. He went on to make 55 NPFL appearances for Bendel Insurance netting once. He was also crucial in Bendel Insurance’s 2023 Federation Cup win, starting all the games during the knockout tournament.

Sunday Anyawu officially joins Evans Ogbonda and Sarki Ismael as the latest exit at the club.
