Super Eagles’ Osayi Surprises Edo SWAN with Jersey Donation

In a heartwarming gesture, Super Eagles and Fernebache of Turkiye’s defender Bright Osayi Samuel, Thursday afternoon donated a set of jerseys to the Edo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria.

The donation was made at the media center, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, at the media parley for the U-13 football championship, which is sponsored by the 26-year-old.

Edo State Football Association Chairman, Fred Newton in a discussion with the ex-Blackpool player, had informed him of the situation, after learning that Edo SWAN needed additional jerseys to their collections.

The former QPR defender responded positively to the request, demonstrating his support for both the youth and the sports writers in the state.

Fred Newton explained that Samuel’s decision to donate the jerseys was driven by his love for the media and his desire to give back to the sports writers.

The jerseys, which include 18 outfield and two goalkeeper kits, were presented to Edo SWAN by the Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, Yusuf Alli, and Samuel’s elder brother, Michael Osayi Onaghise. The team’s captain, Saliu Ibrahim of KU FM, received the jerseys on behalf of Edo SWAN.

Edo SWAN recently defeated Benin Airport FC 2-1 in a friendly match and has received requests for friendly engagements from various professional bodies.

Meanwhile, the maiden Bright Osayi U-13 Football Competition is set to kick off August 2024, in the three senatorial districts of Edo State before the representatives — two each from Edo North and Edo Central meet with the four from Edo South — slog it out at the main tournament from the stage.
