The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, NIS, H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has received the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Award at the SWAN Delegate Congress and Awards Conference 2026.
The award ceremony was held at the popular Zecool Hotel, Barnawa, Kaduna State. The event brought together sports administrators, journalists, and stakeholders to celebrate outstanding contributions to sports development in Nigeria.
The NIS boss was ably represented at the event by the NIS Kaduna Zonal Coordinator, Mr Adeduro Taiwo Henry. Mr Henry received the award of recognition on behalf of the Director-General.
Mr Henry also served as Chairman of the Occasion during the congress. In his remarks, he expressed gratitude to SWAN for the honour bestowed on his principal and on the institute.
The Kaduna Zonal Coordinator called for increased cooperation between NIS and SWAN. He said the partnership will help to promote sports development, grassroots engagement, and proper reporting of sporting activities across the country.
During the Delegate Congress, SWAN also decorated other notable Nigerians as Matrons of Sports. Among those honoured was the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Hulayat Moturayo Omidiran, who was conferred as Matron of SWAN.
Organisers said the 2026 SWAN Delegate Congress and Awards were aimed at recognising individuals and institutions driving growth in Nigerian sports. He added that the recognition will encourage more commitment to the development of sports at all levels.
