Sierra Leone have won the third place match of the 2023 West Africa Trophy Cricket Tournament going on at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket oval, Lagos Nigeria, Defeating match favourite, Ghana by 6 wickets, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The Ghanians won the toss and decided to bat first, but could only manage to score 72 runs after 18.1 overs when their opponents ran all their wickets out in the first innings.
The bowling and fielding performance of Sierre Leone brought them into the game, as their opponents were favoured by many Cricket followers to win the match, also adding the fact that they lost the three previous meetings they had against Ghana in the tournament.
Ghana knew they had to fight hard to prevent their opponents from scoring their runs target, and so they went into the 2nd innings prepared for battle.
It was a case of ‘if wishes were horses’ for the Ghanians because with 12 balls left, they surrendered to their opponents who got the required 73 runs having lost just 4 wickets.
Sierre Leone’s George Ngegba who scored 29 runs with two boundaries(4s) and bowled out 3 wickets of the Ghanians, was named player of the match.
The final match between Nigeria and Rwanda takes off immediately. Nigeria will be batting first, as they’ve elected after winning the toss.
