The highly anticipated National Open Trials for Yucateco Boxing League season two attracted boxers from different states across Nigeria and neighboring West Africa countries.

The two day Trials held in Lagos at the BRAI AYONOTE Boxing Gymnasium inside the National Stadium, Surulere, was staged to give pugilists opportunities to showcase their talent in the biggest amateur boxing event on the continent of Africa.

According to organizers the test bouts is to enabled coaches to scout boxers that will represent various clubs in different weight categories in season 2 of the Yucateco boxing league which commences in June 2024.

Chief Executive Officer Yucateco Boxing Promotions, Omonlei Yakubu Imadu expressed excitement with the turn out of competitors who are eager to exhibit their talents, stating that the level of participation at the trials showed the height the league has attained.

“I am happy with the quality of talents we have seen thus far, aside having boxers from several states in the country attending the trails, we were also able to attract boxers from neighboring West Africa countries, which includes pugilists from Togo, Ghana, Benin, Liberia, and Sierra Leone; this truly excites me as a boxing promoter”

The executive committee of Yucateco Boxing Promotions are currently on a working visit to Benin Rep, Togo and Ghana, where they are expected to sign an MOU with the respective nations on grassroots boxing development.

The Yucateco Boxing League which debuted in 2023 is revolutionizing boxing development in Nigeria with international clubs from West African countries being part of the championship to showcase their boxers.

Season 2 of the Yucateco Boxing League is scheduled to commence in June with no fewer than 12 clubs participating in the championship.
