The semi-finals of the women’s category in the Edo State FA Cup witnessed thrilling matchups, with Fortress Ladies and defending champions Edo Queens securing their spots in the finals.
Both sides were expected to advance to the finals, given their pedigree in women’s football. Although Brave Heart FC and Benin Red Soil put up a good fight after getting into the semi-finals with convincing victories from the quarter-finals.
Brave Heart FC, who had previously defeated Bravoos FC, faced off against Fortress Ladies. The game began with Brave Heart dominating, but Fortress Ladies soon gained momentum. Henry Ivie scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute from a well-executed free kick, securing a 1-0 victory for Fortress Ladies.
Okundia Aisosa, named woman of the match, expressed her excitement about her team’s advancement to the finals and thanked her teammates and coach for their support.

Fortress Ladies’ coach Eigbe Odianose stated, “Reaching the finals is a wonderful feeling, but we’re hungry for more. We’ll encourage the girls to give their best so that they can get more out of the finals”
In the second semi-final match, defending champions, Edo Queens clashed with Benin Red Soil. Amarachukwu Onuorah scored the opening goal in the 17th minute, followed by goals from Agbaji Abibat, Olanipekun Adenike, Okoronkwo Amarachi, and Okeke Ijeoma. Edo Queens secured a convincing 5-0 victory.

Agbaji Abibat was named woman of the match, and Edo Queens’ assistant coach George Benson praised his team’s performance, stating, “We wanted to show that we’re the defending champions and also encourage our young opponent, show them how it’s done at the same time give them hope as they’ll definitely graduate into senior players. We’ll avoid injuries, keeping in mind our upcoming league game, and come prepared for the FA Cup finals.”
Meanwhile, in a heartwarming gesture, Peculiar Ultimate Concern, the sponsor of the Edo State FA Cup, presented customized jerseys to the representatives of participating clubs for third-place matches and finals. The clubs’ representatives were overjoyed with the quality of the jerseys and expressed gratitude to the sponsor for partnering and promoting football development.
