The highly anticipated semi-finals of the second Bright Osayi-Samuel U13 Football Tournament lived up to their billing with a touch of surprise that left many aback. Defending champions, Namo Football Club were handed a stunning defeat by Okuta Football Club as Samco Football Club also booked a place in the final with a win over Delight Football Academy.
The matches which took place at the Lucky Igbinedion Sports Centre, Benin City Saturday afternoon saw the opening match between the defending champions Namo FC and rivals Okuta FC deliver all the excitement expected of a local derby.
Namo FC struck first, with Destiny Okereke, capitalising on a goalmouth scramble to convert from a well-delivered free kick. The defending champions dominated the game from the start, but Okuta FC refused to back down, applying pressure that disrupted Namo’s attacking prowess.
The second half saw the Ilhomo-led boys turn the tide around. Their efforts paid off when Ediae Elvis found the equaliser. Elvis wasn’t done, yet as he struck again to give Okuta FC the lead, completing a brace that earned his side the 2-1 win and the Man of the Match award for him.

Speaking after the game, Okuta FC head coach Ilhomoh Roland couldn’t hide his emotions.
“I feel very happy. In fact, I’m the most excited person in the whole world right now because my boys made me proud. I’m proud of them, and I’m happy.”
Looking ahead to the final, he also expressed full confidence in his team
“I believe Okuta FC has played some of the toughest teams in this tournament, and we just defeated the defending champions. I’m very sure we will emerge champions.”
The second semi-final match also gave some moments of excitement as Samco City came from behind to secure a deserved 2-1 victory over Delight FC in a tightly contested match.
Delight FC drew the first blood through Osameoe after a balanced first half. The second half saw an unfortunate own goal by Aimuamwonsa to gift Samco FC an equaliser, shifting the momentum.
With minutes left on the clock, Dominion Festus sealed the comeback with a free-kick goal, sending Samco FC into the final.
Despite the loss, Delight FC’s No. 3, Osamuyimen Iyazere, was named MVP of the match for his outstanding performance.
