Friday April 3rd will witness the convergence of the Crème de la Crème of sports administrators, athletes, journalists and other stakeholders as the 6th Sportsville Awards Night takes centre stage in Lagos State.
The event scheduled for 5 pm at the Lagos Country Club, will be chaired by sports icon, Dr Larry Izamoje, the chairman of the first private sports radio in Africa, Brila FM and Brila Media Group.
Among the special dignitaries who have touched down in town are Chief Sunday Dare, former Sports Minister, and now the Special Adviser to the President, Dr Danladi Bako OON, Dr Amos Adamu, Chief Segun Odegbami MON and the Managing Director of LAPO Microfinance bank, Dr Godwin Ehigiamusoe PhD.
Other top guests are the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon Bukola Olopade, who is leading a retinue of NSC officials to the event. The list also includes the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, Coach Fany Amun, the NOC Scribe, Tunde Popoola and Olympians Prince Henry Amike and Olumide Oyedeji
The former Marketing Director of Coca Cola Nigeria Ltd, Idoreyin Enag, HOTSPOT Group President Taye Ige, Mitchel Obi of MasterSports International and initiator of Lagos Women Run, Tayo Popoola, are also on ground for the annual event.
The A-list also includes Super Sports General Manager, Chief Felix Awogu, Charles Anazodo, Dr Kweku Tandoh, Efiong Nyong, Lagos All Stars President, Mojeed Adegbindin and Ayodeji Omotoyinbo.
Ex-internationals like Waidi Akani, Friday Elaho, Wasiu Ipaye, Loveday Omoniyi and Sarah Igunbor, are among several others expected to grace the event.
Speaking on what to expect, Frank Ilaboya, the Chief Executive Officer of Sportsville Communication Services Limited, the organisers of the yearly award ceremony, said he is looking forward to another night of glitz and glamour, for which the award is known.
“The annual Sportsville Award has become a gathering of the crème de la crème of sports personalities in Nigeria and this is exactly what we are expecting tomorrow night.
“The award committee headed by Harry Iwuala and we the organizers have been fine-tuning details, and we trust God to crown our efforts with success.
“This is our 6th edition, and we are ready to leverage our past experiences to deliver an award ceremony that will meet international standards.
“With the quality of guests on ground for this event, it promises to be another great night of celebration,” Mr Ilaboya added.
Individuals who have made indelible impacts on Nigerian sports across the federation will be decorated at the event. The recognition serves not only as an appreciation of their contributions but also as a charge for them to continue promoting the growth and development of sports in Nigeria, in recognition of the various works done so far for Nigerian sports.
