The Nigerian Police Force has arrested Al-Ain FC player and former Nigeria U20 winger Riliwanu Haliru Sarki at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja.
The Al-Ain FC of the United Arab Emirates player is believed to be returning to the country for post-season vacation when he was picked up by men of the Nigeria Police Force on arrival.
Sources say his arrest is linked to a refusal to honour multiple invitations by the police, spanning almost one year, despite coming to Nigeria numerous times within the period. The source also revealed that Haliru Sarki was invited over a criminal matter, which required his presence to aid the investigation but the player had refused to show up.
He was nabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning at the airport while returning to the country after one of the officers working on the case sighted him.
