…harps on professionalism, and collaboration to tackle insecurity
Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has hailed the Edo State Security Vigilante Network for its collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies in combating crime and criminality in the State.
The Deputy Governor gave the commendation during the passing out parade of 574 Edo State Vigilante Security/Hunter Network (ESSVN), held at the Ogida Police Barracks, Benin City.
Shaibu congratulated the graduands on the completion and certification of their training, noting “you have gone through a very rigorous training exercise where your intellectual ability and physical fitness were put to test to join the SState’sfast-evolving security architecture”.
“You have gone through the training and the drilling process for the task ahead. I’m sure you’re better equipped now than you came here. It is now time for you to put into practice the training you have received”.
“I thank the Nigeria Police Force for the training given to you to join the State Security Network. You must know that everyone in Edo State has been enlisted into the Edo Security Network, whether in uniform or not”.
According to him, “as a Government, we are aware of the indispensable security personnel in the socio-economic growth and development of our State”.
“We have taken strategic steps to strengthen our security architecture. Today, Edo State is one of the most secure States in Nigeria because we have a Governor that can coordinate all of us by giving utmost priority to the security of lives and property”.
Our concern is how to make poverty history in Edo State and the first step toward this is to have a secure environment.”
“Today, we’re already recording successes. But we’re not there yet until we have a State where citizens can sleep with their eyes closed without any fear; a State where investments abound”.
“You have been trained to go and complement the efforts of the State Security Council. That’s what you have been charged to do and your duty is to go and secure lives and property in your various communities”.
“This you must do according to the relevant law and in synergy with your various Divisional Police Officers”.
The Deputy Governor added: “I thank the young man who renovated the mosque in the barracks and the five persons who distinguished themselves during these two weeks of training. I specifically thank the Inspector General of Police and the Edo State Commissioner of Police, for their unalloyed support and partnership that have translated to the peace and security we enjoy in the State today”.
Assuring support for security agencies in the State, the Commissioner of Police, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DC Miller Dantawaye, appreciated the State Government’s efforts at boosting the economic growth and development of the State by strengthening the security network.
Earlier in his speech, the Commandant, of Police Training School, Ogida, Benin City, ACP Bamidele Awoniyi, said the training of 574 personnel of Edo State Vigilante/Hunter Network (ESSVN) batch ‘A’ from six Local Government Areas of Edo North Senatorial District, commenced on 3rd January 2023 with rigorous physical and mental exertion.
He affirmed: “by the grace of God, the school has been able to take these graduands through basic topics such as information management, fundamental human rights, joint operations, the principle of self-defence, discipline and comportment, exhibit management, vital medical tips on first aid and other relevant topics.
