…deceased cop lost his life attempting to rescue kidnapped victim

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt.Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, Friday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Michael Adam, who lost his life while on a rescue mission to free kidnapped Edo Customary Court Judge, Precious Aigbonoga.

In emotion-laden remarks at the deceased residence in Benin City, the Deputy Governor said: “It is unfortunate that we’ve lost a gallant officer during a successful rescue mission of a Customary Court judge”.

“Such a gallant officer deserves a posthumous medal. He left behind, a beautiful family. This is not a loss to the family members alone, but also all of us. This is why I came with the service chiefs to commiserate with the bereaved family”.

“Our security operatives have been in the bush for some days now. Progress has been made, while two more victims, including the Customary Court Judge, were rescued. We are optimistic that the operatives are going to rescue the remaining victims alive by the grace of God”, Shaibu assured.

“I really appreciate the security chiefs, the Commissioner of Police, the Chief of Army Staff and Defence Staff, vigilantes and the hunters who have been doing a great job, combing the forest”.

The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Muhammed Dakwara, in his speech, noted that “the late Police Officer died during the successful rescue operation in the bush. He couldn’t make it back because of the long distance and several days the operation took place”.

A family member, Ebi Naingbe, who spoke on behalf of the bereaved family, appreciated the Deputy Governor for showing concern for the family.

It would be recalled that Edo State Police Command, through its spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, Thursday revealed to the public, the demise of a Police Officer who was killed by kidnappers, during an operation to rescue Precious Aigbonoga, President of Igueben Area Customary Court.

According to Police image-maker, Magistrate Aigbonoga was kidnapped by gunmen on Monday at Ugoneki Community in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

She was rescued on Thursday by a combined team of policemen and military personnel.

According to Nwabuzor, the Magistrate Judge was rescued by the police and military team at a hide-out called Scorpion Hill, inside the forest where she was held captive.
